Rural Cheshire: a grand design for a country home under Permitted Development Rights

The brief

Under Permitted Development Rights, private clients wanted to make dramatic changes to their existing large country home to create a new layout for the whole property, including a new entertaining space with fantastic views over the beautifully landscaped gardens. They also wanted to re-configure the outside space to accommodate a three bay garage outbuilding with home office, and improve the existing parking and turning configuration at the front of the property.

NWD’s approach

Permitted Development allows for certain building adaptations and improvements to be made without the need for a prior planning application or planning permission to be gained. With in-depth knowledge of what is allowed under the Permitted Development Order, NWD Architects’ Managing Director, David Tilley, drew up designs for a truly grand design. These included new internal layouts as well as significant extensions to the existing property. Despite the extensive changes, the design remains perfectly in keeping with the look of the original house and its environs.

The outcome

Detailed knowledge of what is allowed under the Permitted Development Order was vital in order to achieve all the client’s aspirations for the site. Demolition is currently taking place on-site and work on the alterations has started.
