The route to becoming registered conservation architects

Posted on 19/10/22

One of our architects, Heather Done, has long been particularly interested in conservation architecture. She has worked on a range of our projects in recent years that have involved heritage buildings, from parts of rural estates to various beautiful barn conversions across Cheshire. Now Heather is taking the first step to specialising in conservation by studying the RIBA conservation architecture course.

The first part of the course is based around a series of online seminars and then Heather will collate a portfolio of relevant projects, which demonstrate her knowledge and understanding of the principles of conservation architecture, before proceeding to the Advanced stage of the course and applying to join the RIBA Conservation Architect Register.

Guarantee of authenticity in design

Prolonging the life of our cultural heritage and making sure that any work we undertake is sensitive and in harmony with its surroundings is really important to us. Being on the RIBA Conservation Architects Register would mean that Heather’s skills would then be officially recognised. It will also provide clients with further peace of mind that, regardless of the age of the buildings involved, there will be no loss of authenticity with any of the heritage projects we work on. Along with our Passivhaus Designer certification, this accreditation provides clients with assurance of the high standards to which we work on all our projects, large or small.

Qualified architects

Heather is currently mentoring another member of our team, Mike Townsend, who has worked at NWD Architects for several years. With Heather’s guidance, Mike has just embarked on studying for his RIBA Part 3. Having already undertaken Part 1 and Part 2, once he has achieved Part 3, he will be a fully qualified architect.

If you have an architectural project you would like to discuss with us, please get in touch with us today.
